Welcome.

The Marathon Tour of Coventry and Warwickshire is a race over the full marathon distance (measured and certified accurate) in five stages. Rather than a full marathon to celebrate the first ever marathon to be held in Great Britain which started in Coventry on May 9th 1908, a stage race has been organised. To split a marathon into five stages is meant to appeal to a) anyone who has not done a marathon before but would like a gentle introduction to the distance and still end with a certified time b) those who have completed a marathon but would like to see if they can beat their personal best under more favourable conditions c) the more experience runner who wants a hard series of organised workouts, but with the satisfaction of having a 'time' at the end.

Each stage has a sponsor, there is a free BBQ at the end, with a commemorative t-shirt and a race memento to remember the experience.

The 'Tour' will be raising funds for the BDFnewlife and Radcliffe Paediatric Special Care Baby Unit. Although sponsor forms will be sent out, please do not feel obliged to collect. The charities chosen were for very personal reasons. Soon after my grandson was born, he had to be rushed to Oxford to be put on support as Walsgrave University Hospital did not have suitable facilies available. Radcliffe allowed my daughter and son-in-law to live there while their son was on support. BDFnewlife have provided specialist equipment. Monies raised in the area are targetted by the charity to the needs of the Coventry area.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information. It is to be hoped that all competiors will enjoy this different format of competition.
